BlackRock's Remarkable AI Scenario: "Bitcoin (BTC) Takes the Lead!"

A study indicated that AI agents generally prefer stablecoins for payment processing, and Bitcoin in the long term

While artificial intelligence continues to be a much-discussed topic lately, BlackRock has released a noteworthy assessment on the subject of AI

BlackRock, one of the world’s largest asset managers, noted in its new report on the intersection of artificial intelligence and digital assets that demand for blockchain-based payment infrastructure could increase as AI agents take on a greater role in the economy

In a report titled “The Machine-Native Economy: AI and Digital Assets,” authored by Robert Mitchnick, Head of Digital Assets at BlackRock, BlackRock examined research by the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI), a non-profit organization known for its research on Bitcoin

In this study, AI agents were asked which assets they would prefer for payments and long-term storage, and their behavior was analyzed. It was noted that AI agents generally preferred stablecoins for payment transactions and Bitcoin for long-term storage

BlackRock explicitly states that the results are based on simulation responses from models, not on observed actual transactions. Therefore, the research does not show that agents are currently accumulating Bitcoin

The company considers these findings as early data pointing to a possible monetary structure where stablecoins could be used as a means of payment and Bitcoin as a store of value

In its report, BlackRock states that artificial intelligence could evolve from simply generating information to autonomous systems that directly perform transactions, process payments, utilize necessary payment infrastructure without human intervention, and create significant changes in the financial infrastructure

At this point, BlackRock believes that stablecoins can play an important role in transactions carried out by AI agents. The main reason for this is that stablecoins have a more predictable price structure and a stable unit of account

Although the BPI study shows that AI agents prefer Bitcoin for long-term store of value, BlackRock doesn’t interpret this result as “AI agents will accumulate BTC.” Instead, the company views the findings as early data on a potential AI-driven monetary architecture where stablecoins could be used as a means of payment and Bitcoin as a long-term store of value. BlackRock also notes that increased stablecoin adoption could boost transaction volume on blockchain networks, potentially creating demand for cryptocurrencies
