Why Does Quant Have Few Tokens Compared To Most Cryptocurrencies?

2 min readWhy does Quant have only 14.6 million QNT tokens? The 2018 burn, QNT tokenomics, The Clearing House deal and the latest QNT price explained

Quant has few tokens because its 2018 token sale raised far less than planned, and the company burned the unsold supply. That left a fixed total of 14,612,493 QNT, and no new tokens can be minted

For comparison, Chainlink has a maximum supply of 1 billion LINK. Most of Quant's small supply is already in circulation, so there is little future dilution, meaning few new tokens will enter the market and spread out each holder's share

The answer depends slightly on which data site you check, but every tracker lists fewer than 15 million QNT

Quant's original sale plan allowed up to about 45.47 million QNT. The 2018 sale priced tokens at $1.10 and raised about $11 million, missing its soft cap, the minimum target a sale aims to reach. The sale created 24 million tokens. In September 2018, Quant permanently burned about 9.4 million of them. A burn sends tokens to an address nobody can access, which takes them out of supply for good

Market cap equals price times circulating supply. With so few tokens, each QNT carries a large share of the network's value. On October 8, CoinGecko data showed LINK at about €13.07 with a market cap near $9.7 billion, while QNT traded at about $241 with a market cap near $3.5 billion. LINK is worth about 2.5 times more in total, even though one QNT costs nearly 19 times more than one LINK

QNT is tied to Overledger, Quant's software for banks and companies. Overledger sits above many blockchains, so a bank's app talks to one layer instead of building a separate link to each network

According to Genfinity, enterprises pay for Overledger access in QNT, and a treasury holds the tokens that cover yearly license fees. Research firm 8blocks notes that a client can pay in a stablecoin while Quant locks the matching QNT from its own treasury. It says about 65% of all QNT, roughly 9.55 million tokens, sits in that single treasury address. Quant does not publish its current license pricing

On June 2, 2026, Quant launched its Fusion Rollup on mainnet. Quant says it links 74 blockchains, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana and the XRP Ledger, and calls it a "Layer 2.5" because it records data on many networks at once. That count comes from the company and has not been independently verified

Two announcements in the past two weeks drove most of the recent interest in QNT

On September 24, 2026, The Clearing House, a payments company owned by major U.S. banks, picked Quant to build the technology for its On-Chain Money Initiative. The network will let banks clear and settle tokenized deposits. A tokenized deposit is a regular bank deposit recorded on a blockchain, and it stays a liability of the bank that issued it

The deal does not require banks to use the QNT token

Around October 1, QNT became tradable on Solana through bridge provider Sunrise, with spot trading on Raydium, a Solana decentralized exchange. QNT stays on Ethereum, so this adds a new trading route rather than moving the token

Quant has a fixed supply of about 14.6 million QNT because it burned unsold tokens after a small 2018 sale. Most of that supply already circulates. The token is used for Overledger licensing, now trades on both Ethereum and Solana, and sits behind a company that The Clearing House picked for its tokenized deposit network, due in the first half of 2027. QNT traded between about $250 and $254 on October 7
